HEADLIGHTS

HEADLIGHTS hail from Champaign, Illinois -- home to the University of Illinois. Seeing as we're currently in the midst of the Final Four, it occurred to me that my primary memory of that academic institution centers around their 1988-1989 basketball team.

Back then, I was in the midst of my freshman year at the University of Michigan, and we were feeling pretty giddy about beating Southern Cal in the Rose Bowl in January, then going on to make the basketball Final Four in March. Unfortunately, our opponent was the Fighting Illini -- a team that had beaten us twice during the Big Ten season. It looked like our Cinderella story was about to reach it's end....

Good thing a kid by the name of Sean Higgins had other ideas. Glory be.

[For those of you who couldn't give a flying fork about college basketball (like me, nowadays), there is music to distract you from the Madness (including a song that just had to be posted today).]
